The community of Reston was built upon founder Robert E. Simon's seven core principles that he believed would develop a community where one could live, work, and play. Within these principles, Simon recognized the "importance and dignity of the individual".
Generations of Restonians have upheld the values of Bob's seven principles through a continued commitment to our open parks, public art, diversity of housing opportunities, and - most importantly - enduring belief in community service.
The Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce proudly recognizes the incredible work of our local not-for-profit and community services organizations. The impact they have on the lives of our community members is many times greater than the size of their operations. The Chamber provides a variety of services to these organizations throughout the year, including:
- Fee-free chamber membership to small not-for-profit organizations.
- Hosting a "Nonprofit Spotlight" at each monthly chamber Network Night - offering a valuable platform to a different local organization at each of our biggest monthly networking events.
- Since 1992, partnering with Reston's South Lakes High School to produce Ethics Day, our annual service retreat with the SLHS senior class
- Providing extended spotlight opportunities through our "Business Focus" video podcast program.
- Collaborating with local nonprofits on joint donation drives and volunteer service days.
- Working with local community and for-profit partners to host an annual, spring "CSR and Volunteer Fair".
